A Simple Prompt Formula for Better AI Answers
Give AI the role, task, context, and format so the answer is clearer and easier to use.
Use four simple pieces
A strong prompt does not need to be complicated. Most useful prompts include four pieces: role, task, context, and format.
That means you tell AI who to act as, what to do, what background matters, and how you want the answer delivered.
Role
The role gives AI a point of view. For example, you might say, 'Act like a helpful business assistant,' or 'Act like a marketing coach for a small service business.'
This helps the answer feel more focused.
Task
The task is the specific thing you want done. Be clear and direct. Instead of saying, 'Help with my email,' say, 'Write a friendly follow-up email to a potential client.'
Specific tasks usually lead to better answers.
Context
Context gives AI the background it needs. You might include your audience, your goal, your tone, or a few details about the situation.
You do not need to include private information. Keep it useful, but safe.
Format
Format tells AI how to present the answer. You can ask for bullet points, a short email, a table, a checklist, or three options to choose from.
A complete prompt might be: 'Act like a helpful business assistant. Write a warm follow-up email to a potential client who asked about my services. Keep it under 150 words and include a clear next step.'
